The character of Dracula is based off of the infamous ruler, Vlad the Impaler, whose full name was Vlad III Dracula. Benjamin Franklin once almost started a war between England and France using anonymous letters to a newspaper, purely because he was bored at the time. The last Civil War veteran to die of his war wounds, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, did so in 1914, nearly 50 years after the war ended. Radium used to be a popular ingredient in cosmetic products. It went as badly as you might expect. At the start of WWII, American torpedoes were so faulty that they would sometimes bounce directly off enemy ships without exploding. During the Spanish Civil War, nationalist forces attempted to air drop supplies to besieged allies using turkeys in place of parachutes. It didn't go great.
